January 2013

January 6, 2013 by Spring House Farm

Hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR Spring House Farm friends!

After a very busy season we are looking forward to another great year of providing the very best vacation experience possible. It’s hard to believe that we are starting our 13th year in business! What’s new? The list is long so let’s get started!

First, we would like to introduce my new right hand man Kris. A local fellow, Kris started helping me almost a year ago. He’s very handy and with his help we have gotten much accomplished since he started. Besides cool things like creating a picnic area by the little bridge over our waterfall, he has helped me with many of the “behind the scenes” things necessary to insure a smooth and trouble free operation.

Farm News! If you all have been following our photograph progress on our Facebook page (while there don’t forget to hit the “Like” button) you will have seen that I have moved and restored another structure! No, not another house like “The Appalachian,” but our little “Two Holer” outhouse which was located behind the big house. We moved it up to the office and have created a gift shop! We are stocking with our shirts and coffee mugs we will be offering Mr. Searcys great sourwood honey and locally produced jams and preserves.

I am planning a very large garden this year and will be producing our own line of Barbados style hot sauce and will have fresh veggies for our guests checking in.  Speaking of garden, we will be starting a new garden in the spring in the pasture just across from the water fall. As a kid growing up on the farm, I always enjoyed hanging out in the garden so I will be placing a new picnic table on a little hill between the water fall and the garden. I will probably have to find a place to mount my Kritter Kam because our abundant deer population will no doubt be enjoying that new garden too!

This time of year it’s difficult to speak about what’s not there like our wonderful lilly pad garden. After the first frost the plants completely disappear pads and all! No worries when spring begins to happen the pads and blooms will reappear ensuring an explosion of beautiful and colorful blooms.

We all here at the farm wish you all a prosperous and happy new year and in the mean time we will be here offering you all the best vacation experience possible.

Peace,
Arthur, Zee, “The Chicken” and Mr. Jerry Lee!
